Fast Creamy Garlic Salmon Recipe

Fresh salmon is the ultimate fast food as it only takes minutes to cook. Cooked salmon looks so fancy on your plate it feels like having dinner at an expensive restaurant.

Salmon is full of healthy nutrients that are so good for you and your family.

Preferably buy your salmon fresh at the market or a fish shop. It should have a shiny appearance and feel firm to the touch. It should not smell fishy.

Depending on the type of salmon it can be bright orange to blush pink.

Salmon is one of those ingredients that is prepared in no time. It is best if you didn’t overcook your salmon because it will be too dry so do not cook it too long.

If you use frozen salmon there is a quick way to thaw it, just put the packaged salmon in a bowl with cold water.

So, when you come home and want to cook this recipe take your salmon out of the freezer and put it in cold water.

It is also important to pad the salmon dry before you heat it in a skillet, or else you will get a lot of spatters when you put it in the pan.

Salmon is great to prepare in an Air Fryer like grilled salmon with skin.

How To Make Creamy Garlic Butter Salmon

Preheat a skillet. Put the salmon in the pan and let it sear for about 5 minutes then turn and let it sear for another 5 minutes.

If you have salmon with skin put the salmon with the skin side in the skillet. You do not need any baking product as salmon has enough fat to bake.

After 10 minutes your salmon will get a brown crust. Take the salmon out of the skillet, wrap it with aluminum foil, and put aside.

Add 1 or 2 tablespoons of butter to release the salmon bits from the pan.

Then add the finely chopped onion and stir continuously until soft and translucent. Now add the garlic and keep on stirring until it is soft as well.

Add the wine to the skillet, if you do not like to cook with wine or do not like the taste of wine, you can add chicken broth.

Turn the heat down to a medium simmer until the broth/wine has reduced to half before you pour the cooking cream into the skillet.

Stir and season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 2-3 more minutes until the sauce thickens.

Add the lemon to the sauce and move it around so the sauce can pick up the lemon flavor before you return the salmon to the pan.

Sprinkle some chopped parsley on top of the salmon. Your lemon butter garlic salmon is ready to serve.

How Long To Cook Salmon

When cooking salmon, you shouldn’t look at the time but you need to look at the sides of the salmon fillets.

Notice how the color along the side of a salmon fillet changes from bright orange/pink to a paler tone.

When the color reaches halfway to your fillet it is time to flip them. Let the fillet sit in the skillet and when it has the same pale color take it out of the pan.

Your tender and juicy salmon fillets are ready to serve.

How To Store Cooked Salmon

If you have leftover salmon you have several ways to store them. In all cases let the salmon cool completely before storing it:

  • Refrigerator – you can store your cooked salmon in the fridge. Put it in an air-tight food container and you can leave it in the fridge for 2 to 3 days

  • Skillet – the easiest way to reheat cooked salmon with or without sauce is in a skillet. Heat your skillet to medium so your salmon can warm gradually. This will also prevent the salmon from going dry. Add your sauce and add some water. Turn the salmon so it can be heated from both sides
  • Air Fryer – you can also heat cooked salmon in an Air Fryer. You can heat them in the Air Fryer basket or a cake pan. The latter makes it easier to lift the salmon out of the Air Fryer. Preheat the Air Fryer to 350℉/175℃ for 3 minutes to preserve moisture in the salmon wrap them in foil and heat for 5-7 minutes or until warm. You reheat them unwrapped it will heat faster but chances are the salmon will dry out
  • Oven – you can also reheat salmon in the oven. Preheat the oven to 375℉/190℃ and heat the salmon wrap for 7-8 minutes or until warm
